Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Today, Chunchura MLA Asit Majumdar, along with the head of the local Debanandpur Panchayat, the chairman of the Chunchura Mogra Panchayat Committee, and other panchayat members, went to the market for a campaign. The Bandel Station Road is a very important road. Many people earn their livelihood by setting up vegetable stalls on both sides of the road. They have been running their businesses in this manner for years. Among them, several are not local residents but have come from other districts.
The MLA approached them and threatened that they would not be allowed to set up their stalls from the next day onwards. He said they would have to submit an application to the panchayat, after which they would be allocated space inside the market. He insisted that stalls would not be allowed on the roadside.
While speaking with the shopkeepers, one of the traders pointed out that many others had set up stalls as well. This angered the MLA. He called the police and ordered them to take the trader away, saying he would file a complaint at the police station later. The police arrived and started taking the trader away by holding his hand. However, when the trader admitted his mistake in front of the MLA, he was let go. Addressing a person handling the situation, the MLA remarked, "Do you think I am a scapegoat?"
